According to ancient writings, the game was invented around 200 B.C. by a Chinese warlord named Cheung Leung. Desperate to raise money, Cheung Leung created a game of chance where in people could select characters from the Chinese alphabet and win money if their character was pulled in a random drawing. This new game was so popular that Cheung Leung was able to raise more than enough money to supply his army, and the city was saved from financial and military ruin.

For years, though it was illegal under U.S. anti gambling laws, the Chinese-American community kept the gambling game alive. When Nevada legalized gambling in 1931, the law still barred lotteries. But the new gambling halls recognized the potentially huge profitability of Chinese lottery, so to get around the prohibition, they changed the name of the game to “horse race keno.” Eventually, when lotteries were legalized, the game’s name was shortened to “keno.” But the “horse race” association persists even today.

Keno has the highest house edge — and therefore the worst odds for the gambler — of virtually any game at the casino. At a minimum, the house will keep 22 percent of every keno dollar wagered. Various mathematicians have calculated the odds of matching the numbers you play against the numbers drawn in a given keno race, and the odds grow exponentially with the amount of numbers you select. These almost insurmountable odds are why experts advise keno players to look on the game as nothing more than amusement, due to this way of thinking people still enjoy themselves even if the didn’t win that particular time.

This new television programme will be hosted by Steve Schirripa, who is known from HBO show “The Sopranos”.

This show is being produced by Poker Productions, which is also responsible for the popular late night Poker After Dark franchise on NBC.
The show will open with four doors, each concealing a professional poker player. The lucky contender will be required to pick one of the doors then will play poker with one pro poker player. If they should win, the contestant can opt to take their winnings and leave or risk it all by competing against another pro poker player.
