Obama Offers New Hope For Online Casinos

The Obama website at change.gov highlights some of the changes he and his team of advisors would like to see in the US and globally. One of the promises is to protect the internet from censorship and government interference. Can we perhaps see this as a positive sign for online casinos affected by the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act?

Insiders say that the President elect has his own opinion on how the internet should be regulated, he wants “ensure the full and free exchange of ideas through an open internet and diverse media outlets.” The success of the internet has largely been because it is open.

This is of course the same man that voted against legalizing dockside gambling riverboats and who also said that the “moral and social cost of gambling is devastating”. He has been non-committal throughout his campaign when asked directly about online casinos.
